**Job Description** Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). (Jacobs), and HII Nuclear Inc. **Responsiblities** Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) is seeking a full-time Fiber-Optic Technician II to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide diagnostic fielding and development support in a national laboratory environment. The Stockpile Experimentation & Operations (SEO) organization is looking for a highly motivated Fiber-Optic Technician II to support fielding efforts for multiple projects by providing fiber-optic terminations, polishing, fusion splicing and testing. **Key Responsibilities** + Assist in developing and installing intricate timing systems containing delicate optical lenses and unique optical connectors. + Assist in building fiber-optic arrays and assemblies including cable breakout, fiber terminations, manual and mechanical fiber optic polishing, fusion splicing, and gas blocking. + Assist in completing fiber optic cabling terminations requests like complex optical arrays, cutting-edge optical probes, and optical gas blocking for feedthroughs. + Follow checklist for specific equipment-related tasks such as calibration, testing, and operation of equipment or tools needed for the position. + Use of Optical Time Domain Reflectometers, optical power meters, hand tools, razor blades, small electric drills, Dremel tools, epoxies, and solvents. + Assist in defining specifications for procurements and initiates purchase requests. + On occasion walking over rough ground, lifting equipment safely up to 50 pounds in and out of vehicles and work in field temperatures between 30 and 100+ degrees F. + Must also organize and manage concurrent work requests from different field customers. Organize and maintain adequate supplies in a timely manner. + Must be able to follow Company Documents and Activity Level Work instructions while meeting customer needs. + Perform other duties assigned by Management. **Qualifications** **Education & Experience** + Associate degree in field related to the position or High School diploma plus 2 years' progressive related experience. + Computer experience with Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). + Experience in handling and organizing stock parts and supplies. + Ability to safely operate hand and power tools. + Must have fine motor skills and excellent hand eye coordination to be able to work with and manipulate small scale glass fibers. + Able to work well with others as candidate will regularly interface with team members, other teams, and outside organizations. + This position sometimes requires driving to work in diverse field environments and out in remote desert locations. Some travel may be required to outlying locations in California and New Mexico. + The Primary work location will be at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada. However, work may be performed remotely with the contiguous United States, in accordance with Company policy, with travel to the Nevada National Security Site and other locations as deemed necessary. + Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change). + Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. + Must possess a valid driver's license. MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted. **Department of Energy Q Clearance** (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 ( , "Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites," will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required.
